What the heck is rodeo week?
Ok so after hearing about this tucson rodeo week I have to ask what the heck? Did you know schools have a whole week off during this week? After hearing the words "no school" i immediately google searched our U of A schedule only to find that we have a normal week! I just don't get it! Coming from a rural town I know rodeos and I enjoy watching that kind of activities. I wouldn't mind having a week off for Tucson Rodeo Week, I mean it only seems fair since the other schools in Tucson get this week off. I did a tiny bit of research on this event and it's actually quite historical. It started in 1925 when the prohibition act was going on but this did not stop anyone from drinking alcohol at the rodeo. 25 stills were confiscated and 3000 gallons of moonshine were destroyed. This rodeo is a big deal for Tucson, it's part of Tucson history and I think everyone should be able to celebrate it! EVEN COLLEGE KIDS!

Erica! I also find this very interesting and also that you come from a rural area. I grew up in orange county and I would love to experience living in a rural area where you see rodeos on the regular. i also agree we should have this week off especially when it is historically important to Tucson!
ReplyDeleteHow random I would have never thought of Tucson as a Rodeo spot! I've been to a couple when I was younger but of course that was in Oregon and it's a huge hit in that area especially in Bend. It's crazy to think that Rodeo's have been around for so long, but it makes since especially since they were some of the tip entertainments back in the day. Thats great that you did some research on that and it would be fun to learn more about it.
ReplyDeleteI saw that you had commented earlier on my post about guns, and strict families. I also see that you are interested in rodeo too. I definitely agree with you due to the fact that our family owns around fourteen horses (the number always changes), and i started rodeo when I was six years old. I competed in the AJRA rodeo association, and the High School Rodeo association. Unfortunately I don't compete in rodeo anymore, and my parents sold three of my horses. However, my point is I see where your coming from when you say it is important to Tucson's historical background. It's also cool that your one of the few that is interested in rodeo as well. It seems like everyone I talk to doesn't understand what calf roping, bull dogging, team roping or bull riding is. Anyways look forward to meeting you in class.
ReplyDeleteI also think that as a Tucson based school we should honor the long standing tradition of supporting our local rodeo by getting a couple days off. Rodeo is such an important part of Tucson culture. I have been involved with rodeo my whole life and would like to see the Fiesta De Los Vaqueros Rodeo continue to be one of the better tour stops for pro rodeo.
ReplyDeleteI agree, we live in the heart of Tucson. Tucson was built around the University of Arizona and we cant get these holidays when everyone else does? Plus it sounds like it would be fun to watch a Rodeo I've never seen one before.
